Catfish Becomes Major Commodities

BeritaPagi News, Jakarta – The government will make catfish as one of the main commodities that will be maximized for Indonesia’s food self-sufficiency. Coordinator of Minister for maritime Indroyo Susilo said that the election of catfish as the mainstay because catfish is a fish that contain lots of nutrients with cheap price.

“Even though Catfish is the cheapest, it has a lot of animal protein,” he said after a meeting at his office, Jakarta, Thursday (29/01/2015).

Moreover, Indroyono said that catfish has been well known even to the European continent. “We can 

 sell to Europe,” he added. Besides catfish, he also would make other fisheries commodities such as shrimp, grouper, red snapper, tilapia and catfish as the main commodity.

He also said that the government has targeted Indonesian aquaculture production should reach 31.3 million tons. To achieve these targets, the government must meet a few things that could support aquaculture. For the cultivation needs 7 things that must be met, namely, location, seed, feed, medicine, technology and markets.

My opinion and salutation 

Government in advancing economic policies always make one of them the food self-sufficiency. The government chose the catfish into the main commodity is certainly not without reason. There are several considerations including the Coordinating Minister for maritime stated that because the catfish is considered a lot of nutrients at a low price. I think it is the right thing for catfish breeding is not difficult cultivated so that we no longer need to import from outside. Because compared to other fish, catfish easier to cultivate or care and a lot of people want to cultivate these catfish.

Catfish are also easier to get in and demand. Of course, this is a good thing to be self-sufficient. Considering the price of soybeans continue to rise due to scarcity caused many soybean farmers who switched professions. As a result, our country had to import soybean from the outside. To achieve food self-sufficiency we have to look at the availability of food that is able to meet the food needs of the community without having to import from abroad, and catfish were able to become a major commodity as food self-sufficiency

Therefore the government should further promote the catfish farmers in order better to be able to become self-sufficient. It provides an area facility or materials that eating catfish farmers cultivate more passion in the channel catfish. And catfish can be dikeanal or can be imported to the European continent even to the world. So the world can know that catfish comes from Indonesia and a rich source of nutrients and is also unbelievably affordable price.
